Five interior plaques honor Caroline Dorman, a native naturalist, prolific writer and teacher, who worked to create the Kisatchie National Forest and fought to save the old growth longleaf pines of Louisiana.

This grouping of 17-foot-tall pine trees creates an outdoor classroom with dappled shade.
This kaleidoscope – a gathering of butterflies – symbolizes transformation: from earthbound caterpillar to airborne grace. The figure emerges from a dreamlike state into an awareness of its profound interconnectedness with all life.
A twelve-foot egret is taking flight. Beneath them, concrete boulders allow for seating while awaiting boat rides. To encourage kids of all ages to learn about amazing birds in the Everglades, a plaque with descriptions is accompanied by twenty birds in silhouette along a "flight path," creating an identification game.
